Cisem II Gas Pipeline Begins Connection, Strengthening Java's Industrial Supply
JAKARTA - PT Pertamina Gas (Pertagas) has officially become the operator of the Batang-Cirebon-Kandang Haur Timur (Cisem II) natural gas transmission pipeline, which is expected to strengthen energy distribution to the industrial sector on Java island.
The appointment was made in April 2026 after Pertagas won the tender for partner selection held by the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) through LEMIGAS. The pipeline forms part of the Cirebon-Semarang (Cisem) transmission pipeline project, following the earlier operation of the Semarang-Batang section or Cisem I.
Pertagas President Director Indra P Sembiring stated that the company has experience as the operator of Cisem I since 2023. Therefore, the company believes it is ready to operate the pipeline network to supply natural gas to various national user sectors.
“The availability of integrated and reliable gas infrastructure is key to accelerating the national energy transition with natural gas,” Indra said in his statement, quoted on Saturday (9/5/2026).
According to him, the energy supplied through the Cisem Pipeline will meet the needs of industry and other sectors for cleaner energy. In addition, the existence of this infrastructure is also said to provide added value to the upstream oil and gas sector while supporting national economic growth.
Indra added that the Cisem II Pipeline is part of the National Strategic Project (PSN) that integrates natural gas pipeline infrastructure in Indonesia.
He explained that previously, natural gas source locations and main user markets were in different regions. However, connectivity is now forming through the Cirebon-Semarang Transmission Pipeline and the Gresik-Semarang Transmission Pipeline.
“Thus, the Cisem II Pipeline, spanning approximately 242 km, becomes a game changer because it connects with Pertagas’ existing infrastructure in West Java, Central Java, and East Java, thereby strengthening the reliability of energy infrastructure distribution on Java island,” Indra added.
Meanwhile, Pertagas Director of Technical and Operations Agung Indri Pramantyo said that the Cisem II pipeline network is now integrated with the Cisem I pipeline section in the Batang Industrial Area (KITB), Central Java, operated by Pertagas, as well as the Kandang Haur Timur Station (KHT) owned by Pertagas in West Java.
“This integration forms an integrated pipeline network system and provides operational flexibility and reliability of natural gas infrastructure, especially those we operate,” Agung said.
The sectors include refineries, fertiliser industries, to power plants that require a sustainable energy supply.
In addition to supporting the industrial sector, the network is also said to support the government’s programme in developing gas for households and micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) along the pipeline route.
According to Agung, this step is expected to expand energy access while strengthening national energy resilience.
In line with that, Pertagas stated that it continues to support the integration of the national natural gas transmission infrastructure to boost domestic industrial growth and drive national economic growth.
The company also reaffirmed its commitment to optimising the use of natural gas as a cleaner and more reliable energy source during Indonesia’s energy transition, while supporting the government’s energy self-sufficiency targets.
