Cisarua Landslide Area in West Bandung Becomes Content Creation Hotspot, Residents Angry
Residents who survived the landslide in Pasirlangu Village, Cisarua District, West Bandung Regency, West Java, are angry that many people are creating content at the disaster site. Residents have appealed to visitors to behave respectfully.
According to reporting from detikJabar on Wednesday (25 February 2026), the affected area spanning approximately 2.5 kilometres has become quieter following the cessation of search and rescue operations. However, the area has now become a tourist and recreational destination.
The terrain, strewn with rubble from destroyed buildings, massive boulders, and an unexpected river flow that emerged in the middle of the landslide area, has been turned into a tourist spot by numerous visitors.
“Yes, it’s now become a place for evening recreation. Many outsiders come. I don’t even know their faces,” said Iman Rahmat, a survivor of the Cisarua landslide.
Iman and other grieving residents are frustrated with the conduct of these “disaster tourists”. He stated that these individuals frequently create content to earn money.
“From the beginning there have been many media outlets, but that’s different. Now many keep coming to make content. They earn money, whilst we victims get what? We are grieving because our families became victims, and we have no homes left,” Iman said.
Residents and village authorities have now installed banners reading “NOT A TOURIST ATTRACTION, RESPECT AND CONDUCT YOURSELVES PROPERLY” in Pasir Kuda Village, which has also been devastated. Based on data provided by the Search and Rescue Mission Coordinator at the conclusion of victim search operations on 14 February, approximately 20 victims remain unrecovered.
