Cirebon City Government Utilises 20 CCTV Cameras to Monitor Eid Return Traffic
Cirebon (ANTARA) - The Cirebon City Government in West Java is utilising 20 surveillance cameras (CCTV) to monitor the Eid return traffic in 2026 on several major roads to ensure traffic remains smooth. Head of the Cirebon City Transportation Agency, Andi Armawan, in Cirebon on Wednesday, stated that monitoring via CCTV is conducted in real-time so that officers can respond immediately if vehicle congestion occurs. “We can monitor vehicle movements comprehensively. This means that if congestion occurs, handling can be done directly,” he said. He explained that the utilisation of this technology is one of the important steps in traffic control, especially during the Eid homecoming and return periods, which are usually accompanied by an increase in vehicle volume. According to him, experiences during the previous peak homecoming flow serve as evaluation material for his side to improve traffic supervision with the support of a visual monitoring system. In addition to relying on technology, the Cirebon City Transportation Agency is also implementing several traffic engineering measures to maintain vehicle smoothness during the return flow. He conveyed that one of the steps taken is adjusting the duration of traffic lights, from the previous 60 seconds to 90 seconds so that vehicle flow from various directions remains balanced. The Transportation Agency is also coordinating with local police to regulate vehicle movements at several congestion-prone points in the city area. According to Andi, the policy to keep U-turn points open at several locations is considered effective in reducing the potential for vehicle build-up. “The return flow is indeed starting to increase, but it is still under controlled and smooth conditions,” he said.
