Cirebon city government promotes Mask Museum as cultural tourism icon
Cirebon — The Cirebon city government in West Java is continuing to promote the Mask Museum in its jurisdiction as a cultural tourism icon capable of attracting tourists and introducing the city’s rich history to the general public.
Agus Sukmanjaya, head of the Cirebon City Department of Culture and Tourism (Disbudpar), stated that the museum, located within the Cirebon city hall compound, can serve as a venue for narrating the history and richness of local culture to residents and tourists.
“The museum, which was established approximately two years ago, now houses a fairly diverse collection of distinctive Cirebon masks, making it an educational resource for both local residents and visitors from outside the region,” he said.
He considered the museum’s presence important as an effort to introduce the Cirebon mask art tradition whilst simultaneously strengthening regional cultural identity through history-based tourism destinations.
“The Minister of Tourism has requested that content creators help promote the Mask Museum, not only for the people of Cirebon, but also for those from outside the region,” he said.
He noted that digital promotion is considered an effective strategy for attracting tourists, particularly younger generations who access information primarily through social media.
According to Agus, the promotional efforts also receive support from the Ministry of Tourism, which encourages various stakeholders to introduce the cultural tourism potential of Cirebon city.
