Cipali Toll Discount Takes Effect Today, 2,700 Vehicles per Hour Heading to Jakarta
REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, CIREBON — A 30% discount on toll fares has been reintroduced on the Cipali toll road starting from Thursday (26/3/2026) at 00.00 WIB until Friday (27/3/2026) at 24.00 WIB. This policy applies to road users travelling continuously from the Kalikangkung Semarang Toll Gate to the Cikampek Utara Toll Gate towards Jakarta.
Sustainability Management & Corporate Communications Dept Head of Astra Tol Cipali, Ardam Rafif Trisilo, stated that the discount programme is expected to make the return journey more economical while remaining safe and comfortable for road users. “We also remind road users to always ensure that their electronic money card balance is sufficient, the vehicle condition is roadworthy, and to maintain physical fitness,” said Ardam on Thursday (26/3/2026).
As of Thursday morning, traffic flow on the Cipali toll road was observed to be easing, although congestion still occurred at several points. Based on data from 00.00 to 08.00 WIB, around 21,000 vehicles passed through the former Cikopo Toll Gate heading to Jakarta, or a 31% decrease compared to the same period the previous day.
The vehicle volume was recorded at an average of 2,700 vehicles per hour. At the same time, around 5,000 vehicles were moving towards Cirebon, with the total morning traffic volume 27% lower than the previous day.
The slowdown in traffic on the ground was triggered by an increase in vehicles stopping on the roadside. In addition to engine issues, driver fatigue after long journeys from the east towards Jakarta was the main cause. “Physical fatigue of returnees on long journeys from the East towards Jakarta has caused many drivers to decide to rest on the roadside or at rest areas upon arriving on the Cipali toll road,” said Ardam.
To maintain smooth traffic flow, Astra Tol Cipali, together with the police, is implementing a situational open-close system at all rest areas, namely KM 86, KM 102, KM 130, and KM 166 towards Cirebon, as well as KM 164, KM 130, KM 101, and KM 77 towards Jakarta.
Road users are urged not to stop on the roadside or force queues before full rest areas, as this can trigger wider traffic slowdowns. The toll operator also suggests that returnees utilise rest areas outside the nearest toll gates.
The toll operator ensures that the total travel fare remains the same based on the distance travelled, even if road users exit and re-enter the toll gates to rest outside the toll road.
