CIMAHI — Dozens of students and teachers in Cimahi City, West Java are believed to have suffered food poisoning after consuming meals from the Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) programme on Wednesday, 25 February 2026. Deputy Mayor of Cimahi, Adhitia Yudisthira has instructed an investigation into the cause of the poisoning during this Ramadan month.

“Our primary focus at present is medical treatment and investigating the cause of the incident. Food samples have been secured and are being tested in the laboratory,” said Adhitia in Cimahi on Thursday, 26 February 2026.

The suspected food poisoning case began when students and teachers received MBG meal packages from the Nutrition Fulfilment Service Unit (SPPG) Karangmekar 2 on Wednesday, 25 February 2026 morning. Some students consumed the meals after returning from school as they were fasting for half the day, whilst some teachers were unable to eat due to other reasons.

The MBG menu package on this occasion contained chicken onigiri, boiled eggs, apple, dates and milk. However, from midday onwards, students and teachers began experiencing food poisoning symptoms such as nausea, vomiting and dizziness, prompting them to be taken to hospitals and other health facilities.

Adhitia emphasised that all SPPG units in Cimahi City must comply with agreements established between the Cimahi Municipal Government and the National Nutrition Agency (BGN). Additionally, SPPG units must implement all procedures in accordance with standards to ensure the safety of distributed food, with each provider required to meet established quality standards and food material eligibility requirements.

He explained that quality standards and food material eligibility must be accompanied by food preparation and presentation processes carried out according to the established standard operational procedures (SOP). “Quality standards must be met, from ingredient quality to consumption eligibility to other food safety aspects. That comes first, then for cooking processes, packaging and distribution must follow SOP. The government will conduct oversight and require all SPPG units in Cimahi City to truly be disciplined in implementing these requirements,” he said.
