Cimahi City Government held the Nuzulul Qur’an 1447 AH commemorative event on Friday evening, 6 March 2026. A sign language interpreter was provided so that the messages from the remembrance of the historic revelation of the Qur’an could be accessed by people with disabilities, particularly those who are deaf.

The Nuzulul Qur’an gathering was held at Cimahi Grand Mosque and was attended by representatives from the regional leadership coordination forum (Forkopimda), regional devices, vertical agencies, ulama, leaders of pesantren, and various other members of the community. The sermon was delivered by KH Ubaidillah AB.

Cimahi Deputy Mayor Adhitia Yudisthira said that the Nuzulul Qur’an observance is an important moment for Muslims to reaffirm the values of the Qur’an as a guide for life. The night of 17 Ramadan is observed as the moment when the first revelation to the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) was sent, namely Surah Al-’Alaq, verses 1–5.

“The night of 17 Ramadan is a special night in history when the first revelation to our Prophet Muhammad (may peace be upon him) was revealed, with Surah Al-’Alaq, verses 1-5,” he said.

He added that the Nuzulul Qur’an is not only a moment to recall when the Qur’an was revealed but also a reminder for Muslims to make the Qur’an a reference in daily life: “I also invited the congregation at the Cimahi Grand Mosque to join in prayers with the khotmil Qur’an as a reminder for us all that the Qur’an should guide our daily activities.”

Inclusive City

This year’s Nuzulul Qur’an night felt particularly special to Adhitia because the Cimahi City Government provided a sign language interpreter who accompanied the proceedings from the opening remarks to the delivery of the sermon. As a result, religious messages can be accessed by people with disabilities, especially the deaf.

The move represents the Cimahi City Government’s commitment to ensuring that all segments of society have equal opportunities to participate in religious and social activities in public spaces.

“The special aspect of this Nuzulul Qur’an night should serve as a model for other regions that Cimahi City is committed to continually moving toward an inclusive city,” said Adhitia.

According to Adhitia, having a sign language interpreter at religious events also demonstrates that Islamic values uphold openness and respect for the diversity of people’s circumstances.

“This is a symbol that the Nuzulul Qur’an commemorations are not merely about remembering when the Qur’an was revealed or how to implement it, but that the Qur’an and Islam are inclusive and tolerant of everyone,” he said.

Through this Nuzulul Qur’an commemoration, the Cimahi City Government hopes that people will not only observe the Qur’an’s revelation ceremonially but will also strengthen their commitment to practising its teachings in daily life, within families, social surroundings, and in the broader community.”
