Cilegon Government Pushes for Local Business Involvement in Chandra Asri Chemical Plant Project
CILEGON – The Cilegon City Government continues to encourage the involvement of local businesses in the strategic construction project of the Chandra Asri Alkali (CAA) chemical plant. Concrete steps were taken by holding a meeting between Cilegon Mayor Robinsar and representatives of the project's main contractors, namely PT China Chengda Engineering, PT Total Bangun Persada, and PT Seven Gates Indonesia, on Friday (13/6/2025).
In his statement, Mayor Robinsar explained that the meeting was a follow-up to previous discussions with the Indonesian Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) regarding opportunities for local entrepreneurs. "This coordination meeting follows our previous meeting with BKPM to enable the hiring and involvement of Cilegon City businesses," he said.
He also conveyed that technical steps had been taken to involve local entrepreneurs, particularly those located nearest to the project site. "We have met and discussed the technical aspects of involving local businesses, and today work has already begun for ring-one entrepreneurs in the Samangraya area and surroundings," he explained.
According to Robinsar, the involvement of local businesses would not be limited to the area surrounding the project but would be expanded to cover the entire city of Cilegon. "Going forward, the scope will cover all of Cilegon, so we will also accommodate businesses in Cilegon City that have the competence and standardisation certifications expected by Chengda and Total Bangun Persada," he said.
He emphasised that there would be no specific quota for local businesses, but their involvement would be determined by compliance with the contractors' technical requirements. "There is no percentage quota. Chengda has its requirements, and those will be the standard. If local businesses meet the criteria, they will certainly be involved," he stressed.
As a next step, the Cilegon City Government will facilitate meetings between contractors and local business associations to discuss further opportunities. "In the near future, we will gather with local entrepreneurs. We will invite KADIN, HIPMI, Gapensi, and local business associations," he said.
The Cilegon City Government will also conduct an internal review through the Investment and One-Stop Integrated Services Agency (DPMPTSP) to follow up on the meeting's outcomes. "We will mediate, we will hold another meeting to address the results of today's meeting. The Cilegon city government, under PTSP, will review this first," he added.
He mentioned that several types of work could already begin to be filled by local businesses, including cleaning, structural work, painting, and paving block installation. "There is quite a lot — cleaning, structural work, painting, paving — there is much we can do. We will meet again on Monday," he said.
Meanwhile, PT Chengda representative Liu stated that the cooperation process would commence in accordance with the work schedule determined by Chandra Asri. "We follow the schedule from Chandra Asri and align with Chandra Asri's target planning for handover," Liu said.
He also expressed appreciation for the support provided by the Cilegon City Government in facilitating the smooth progress of the project. "We extend our sincere thanks for the support from the Cilegon City Government for cooperation and future success," he concluded.
