Cilegon City Government dispatched 2,000 participants in the Free Homecoming Programme with 50 buses from the forecourt of the Cilegon Mayor’s Office on Sunday, 15 March 2026. The programme serves homecoming travellers heading to various destinations across Java and Sumatra.

Cilegon Mayor Robinsar stated that the free homecoming programme represents the local government’s commitment, together with various stakeholders, towards residents celebrating Eid with their families in their home villages. “We extend our deepest gratitude to all industries, whether state-owned enterprises, regional state-owned enterprises, or private enterprises, who have contributed to providing the free homecoming buses this year,” he said.

Robinsar also expressed hope that all homecoming travellers would have safe journeys and return to Cilegon in good health. “We hope all travellers arrive safely at their destinations, reunite with their families, and can return home to Cilegon in good health,” he added.

Head of Cilegon City Transportation Department Heri Suheri explained that this year’s free homecoming programme has been adjusted through an online registration system equipped with barcodes as proof of departure. “This year represents an adjustment for residents as registration is conducted online, and proof for boarding buses uses barcodes. However, each bus has our designated officer ready to assist residents,” he explained.

One programme participant, Wulandari, a resident of Rawa Arum District heading to Blitar, East Java, found the online registration system more practical than the previous year. “Online registration through the application is more efficient as it avoids long queues like last year. We also express our gratitude to the Mayor for facilitating this free homecoming programme as it greatly helps us save costs,” she said.

Similar sentiments were expressed by Fika, a resident of Bulakan District heading to Yogyakarta, who appreciated the Cilegon City Government’s commitment in delivering a programme that directly benefits residents. “I express my gratitude for the care and commitment of Cilegon City Government in improving community welfare through this free homecoming programme. I hope this programme can continue with a larger bus fleet so that more residents can benefit from it,” she said.
