ATLANTA (Reuter): CIBA Vision said that its new contact lens plant in Batam, Indonesia, had received pre-market approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

The plant is the first manufacturing site in Indonesia to get FDA approval.

"We are very pleased to receive FDA approval in Indonesia," said Dr. C. Glen Bradley, chief executive of the CIBA Vision Group.

The plant employs more than 500 people in the production of disposable and frequent replacement contact lenses for worldwide distribution. It is one of CIBA Vision's primary global manufacturing sites.
