Cianjur Police Facilitate Community Homecoming through Free Travel Programme
Hundreds of migrant workers who have settled in Cianjur Regency, West Java, were facilitated by the local police force to return home ahead of Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijriah on Tuesday 17 March.
Five coach buses were prepared for the free homecoming programme. The Cianjur Police Chief, Deputy Commissioner Ahmad Alexander Yurikho Hadi, stated that coinciding with the mass exodus period, Cianjur Police wished to assist residents longing to reunite with their families during Eid al-Fitr.
“Shortly we will celebrate the victory of Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijriah. We at Cianjur Police want to share happiness and this moment of victory by providing five coach buses,” he said on Tuesday 17 March.
A total of 159 people registered to participate in the free homecoming programme. Initially, the final destination of the free homecoming route was Cilacap Regency in Central Java. “But later developments show that some will travel to Solo and some to Yogyakarta,” he explained.
Alexander noted that although members of Cianjur Police would not be taking leave as they must ensure security during Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijriah celebrations, sharing happiness represents the police force’s presence among the community. He scheduled the free homecoming programme as an annual event each year ahead of Eid al-Fitr. “God willing, this activity will become an annual agenda.”
Vehicle Storage Services
Coinciding with the Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijriah homecoming period, Cianjur Police also opened a vehicle storage service for homecoming travellers. Cianjur Police guarantees the security of vehicles whilst they are left by their owners.
“For Cianjur residents who will be travelling home, they can deposit their vehicles at Cianjur Police, whether two-wheeled or four-wheeled vehicles. The parking area at Cianjur Police is sufficiently spacious,” said Alexander.
Vehicle storage is also conducted at every police substation. Residents simply need to bring their vehicles to the police station or substation with the required documentation.
“So when they return from their homecoming, they can retrieve their vehicles safely,” he added.
Cianjur Police will monitor empty homes left by residents due to homecoming travel. Intensive patrols will be conducted to prevent criminal activity.
“We at Cianjur Police have the Maung Team and the Precision Eagle Team, and God willing, they will monitor empty homes by intensifying patrols,” he concluded.
