Cianjur Police Close Route to Puncak to Prevent Total Traffic Jam
Cianjur (ANTARA) - Cianjur Police Resort in West Java has closed the route to Puncak-Cipanas starting from Tugu Lampu Gentur-By Pass, Cianjur, to prevent a total traffic jam due to the high volume of vehicles on the Puncak route on Saturday, with traffic being diverted to alternative routes.
The Head of Traffic Police at Cianjur Police Resort, AKP Aang Andi Suhandi, in Cianjur on Saturday, stated that vehicle queues on the Puncak route continue to lengthen, with the end of the queue exceeding five kilometres, prompting the implementation of various traffic flow arrangements to anticipate a total jam.
Drivers heading to Jabotabek are directed to alternative routes via Jonggol and Sukabumi during the closure, and to break the chain of queues in the Puncak-Cipanas area, officers are enforcing open-close traffic flow arrangements.
“Vehicle volume in the Puncak tourist area increases during the long weekend holiday, leading to dense traffic along the Puncak-Cipanas route, with the queue tail exceeding five kilometres,” he said.
According to him, the traffic closure is situational, and when the vehicle queues ease, the route will be opened normally in both directions, so he requests drivers to comply with traffic rules and officers’ instructions to pass safely and comfortably.
He said the increase in vehicle volume is predicted to continue for the next two days, so various traffic arrangements, including a one-way system, will be implemented to anticipate long queues with halted vehicle movement.
“It is situational; when queues occur, a one-way system is applied, including the closure of the route from Cianjur to Puncak for the next two days, to prevent total jams due to the high volume of vehicles heading to Jabodetabek or vice versa,” he said.
Amid the extreme weather still affecting much of Cianjur, including the Puncak-Cipanas area, he urges drivers to increase caution and vigilance, especially during heavy rain, as it can trigger natural disasters including fallen trees.
“Currently, extreme weather frequently affects Cianjur; drivers must pay attention, especially when passing flood-prone routes and fallen tree areas; follow officers’ instructions to ensure safe, comfortable, and incident-free driving,” he said.
