Cianjur (ANTARA) - The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Cianjur Regency, West Java, has recorded the impact of extreme weather that struck several areas in Cianjur, resulting in an increase in damaged houses to 16 units across three sub-districts on Friday.

BPBD Cianjur Secretary Asep Sudrajat in Cianjur on Friday stated that his agency is continuously updating data on the impact of the extreme weather that affected most areas of Cianjur, with the latest figures showing around 11 houses in Limbangan Village, Cianjur Sub-district, damaged.

There were no fatalities in the incident, but 16 family heads, comprising about 43 people, have been forced to temporarily evacuate to relatives’ homes because most of the damaged houses have roof issues.

“Temporary data shows 16 damaged houses in three sub-districts, with five houses severely damaged and the other 11 moderately damaged, mainly on the roofs, due to heavy rain accompanied by strong winds,” he said.

As such, his agency is currently working to provide assistance to the affected residents so they can return to their homes, and carrying out quick response efforts before aid is received.

Previously, he added, temporary data on the extreme weather impact occurred in Sukaluyu and Karangtengah Sub-districts, where heavy rain accompanied by strong winds caused two residents’ houses to be severely damaged and three houses moderately damaged after being hit by falling trees.

“We will continue to update the latest data on the extreme weather impacts occurring ahead of the last breaking of the fast in several sub-districts in Cianjur,” he said.

“We urge the public to always remain alert and observant in reading signs of impending disasters, to immediately evacuate to places deemed safe, and not to panic in order to avoid unwanted incidents,” he said.
