Churches, mosques get cash, tents

NABIRE, Papua: The Nabire government on Wednesday handed over 138 tents and Rp 1 billion (US$111,000) in cash to 138 churches and mosques in the Nabire regency, the scene of a recent powerful earthquake.

A.P. Youw, the Regent of Nabire, said that the tents were aid from the Japanese government, while the cash was provided by the central government. The cash will be distributed evenly among the 138 places of worship.

The Nabire earthquake on Nov. 26, measuring 6.4 on the Richter scale, killed at least 32 people and injured hundreds of others. -- Antara
