JAYAPURA, Irian Jaya: Some 2,000 leaders of Protestant church
denominations are expected to attend the 12th Grand Synod of the
Indonesian Church Community (PGI) here on Oct. 21-31.

The Synod organizers said they are preparing accommodation for
more than 2,000 because the number of participants could still
swell in the next two months.

Because of the limited number of hotels in Jayapura, some of
the participants would be accommodated in houses of local people.

The Grand Synod, held once every four years, will be
officially opened either by President Soeharto or Vice President
Try Sutrisno, Antara reported. (rms)
