Cholera found in Tonggolobibi
PALU, Central Sulawesi: Health officials have found several cases of cholera in Tonggolobibi, a fishing village that was devastated by a tidal wave earlier this month.
The health office of the Donggala Regency has sent a medical team to the village to contain the disease, which besides being fatal is also highly contagious, Antara reported quoting the office's chief, Dr. Alfin Mongi.
The report did not say whether anyone had died of cholera.
Alfin said there have also been complaints of malaria and pneumonia from people in Tonggolobibi and nearby villages.
The Central Sulawesi Health Office has also sent medical supplies to the devastated areas, the news agency said.
Eight people were killed by the tidal wave on Jan. 1. The tidal wave was preceded by an earthquake, measuring 7 on the Richter scale, which struck the Makassar Strait. (emb)
