Chinese paintings to be displayed

JAKARTA (JP): A total of 300 oil paintings by 90 Chinese painters will be displayed at the Jakarta Fairground from Nov. 25 to Dec. 10.

The chairperson of the organizing committee, Dewi Motik Pramono, said on Saturday that the exhibition is aimed at presenting the best paintings and uniting China's best painters in one exhibition.

"Such a masterpiece exhibition rarely happens in China," she said.

"Forty-five of the painters are China's first rate artists and their paintings are widely appreciated here in Indonesia," Dewi said. As an example, she cited Ma Hong Dao, whose work was sold for US$110,000 in an exhibition held here in 1993.

She added that the exhibition will also feature paintings by Fu Guan Gen, who had won first prize in a competition for young painters in China.

Dewi said that among the senior painters are Ling Qi Ning, Cai Liang and Zhang Zini, who have gained a good reputation in Japan and France.

Four painters, Chai Ju, Chen Chien Min, Sun Xi Hua and Wu Yin Ju, are here to attend the exhibition.

Dewi said that the prices of the paintings on display range from $2000 to $30,000. (yns)
