A heartwarming scene unfolded during the 2026 Chinese New Year celebrations in Cianjur Regency, as worshippers from various faiths gathered harmoniously for the festivities marking the Year of the Fire Horse.

In addition to the Chinese community, representatives from the Interfaith Harmony Forum (FKUB) attended the Chinese New Year celebrations at Bhumi Pharsjia Temple on Monday evening (16 February 2026). Uun Setiawan, Chairman of the Bhumi Pharsjia Temple Foundation, said hundreds of Chinese residents in Cianjur celebrated at the temple located on Jalan Mangunsarkoro.

"Hundreds of people attended, including representatives from the Cianjur FKUB," he said.

According to Uun, this year's Chinese New Year was celebrated modestly. "This year it was simpler — just the usual series of activities without any lavish celebrations," he said.

Uun said the Chinese New Year transition was observed solemnly, expressing hope that Cianjur would remain protected and spared from disasters. The presence of representatives from various religious communities was seen as a moment to unite the people of the city known as Kota Tauco.

"Our prayer for the new year is that the people of Cianjur remain harmonious across all faiths, always protected and kept safe from any calamity," he said.

This year's Cap Go Meh festivities, Uun noted, will coincide with the holy month of Ramadan. Whereas the barongsai and liong parades are typically held in the evening, this year's Cap Go Meh procession will take place in the afternoon, before the breaking of the fast.

"We have already coordinated with FKUB — this year's Cap Go Meh will be held in the afternoon before iftar. It will serve as entertainment for the people of Cianjur, as well as a pleasant way to pass the time before breaking the fast for Muslims in Cianjur," he said.

Meanwhile, Cianjur Police Chief AKBP A Alexander Yurikho Hadi said dozens of officers had been deployed to secure the Chinese New Year celebrations in Cianjur.

"Around 50 personnel have been stationed here to maintain security until tomorrow morning, to ensure the celebrations proceed safely," he said.

Hadi also remarked that Chinese New Year in Cianjur holds special significance, as worshippers from various faiths come together to demonstrate interfaith harmony.

"I met with members of various congregations earlier, and this reflects true harmony. I hope this can serve as an example for other regencies and regions across Indonesia in terms of interfaith relations," he said.

According to Hadi, interfaith harmony in Cianjur is not merely a concept but is genuinely practised. "What I can observe here is that this harmony is not just lip service, not just a concept — it is truly being implemented," he added.
