Chinese Citizen Killed in US-Israeli Military Strike on Iran
A Chinese citizen has been reported killed in a military strike by the United States and Israel against Iran. The operation came as part of a major assault on Tehran that resulted in the death of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, according to China’s Foreign Ministry statement on Monday, 2 March 2026.
China stated it had instructed its embassy in Iran to provide assistance to the affected individual and their family. However, the Xi Jinping government did not disclose further details about the victim or the incident.
Beijing had previously warned its citizens against travelling to Iran temporarily due to the “current security situation”. According to AFP, more than 3,000 Chinese nationals have left Iran as of Monday.
China separately called for a ceasefire and diplomatic negotiations to end the Middle East conflict, which had been ongoing for three days. Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning stated at a press conference: “The most pressing task is the immediate cessation of military operations and preventing the spread and escalation of the conflict,” and urged “settlement through dialogue and negotiations.”
Following the US and Israeli strikes, Iran’s Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) vowed to launch the “most ferocious” operation in history against Israel and US bases located in Gulf states. Explosions were heard in Doha, Dubai, and Manama over the weekend, following a series of unprecedented Iranian attacks.
