JAKARTA, investor.id – The Ministry of Investment and Downstreaming/Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) has stated that Chinese company Huayou Group has already invested US$8.8 billion in Indonesia. The company plans to invest up to US$20 billion in the country.

"Going forward, according to their calculations, it could reach an additional US$20 billion. They will elaborate on this for their next project in May," said Investment Minister/BKPM Head Rosan Roeslani at the Q1 2025 Investment Realisation Achievement Press Conference at the Ministry of Investment and Downstreaming/BKPM office on Tuesday (29/4/2025).

Huayou operates in the environmentally friendly development of nickel resources and industrial zones. The company is currently running two projects in Indonesia. The first involves continuing a project previously undertaken by LG. The second involves carrying out investments in line with Huayou's plans for developing industrial park clusters similar to those in Morowali and Weda Bay.

The investment location is planned for Pomalaa, Sulawesi. "They now want to develop their own industrial park land, similar to those in Morowali and Weda Bay. We want to develop in other locations as well. The plan is for the location to be in Pomalaa," said Rosan.

The investment is expected to generate significant economic activity in Indonesia. The construction of an industrial park will involve numerous parties and related sectors.

"If we build an industrial park on the scale of Morowali or Weda Bay, the investment will certainly be very substantial," Rosan explained.

He affirmed that investment realisation in the downstreaming sector in Indonesia has attracted considerable interest from other countries. Downstreaming investment realisation reached Rp136.3 trillion in Q1 2025. Compared with the previous quarter, this represented growth of 1.04 per cent. Compared with Q1 2024, when the figure stood at Rp75.8 trillion, growth reached 79.82 per cent.

"Yesterday I also met with a French company that wishes to invest in the downstreaming sector," said Rosan.
