China urges immediate halt to military operations related to Iran conflict
Beijing (ANTARA) - Spokesperson for the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mao Ning, on Tuesday (7/4), stated that her side urges an immediate halt to military operations related to the Iran conflict and a swift return to dialogue and negotiations.
According to Mao, this is important to fundamentally resolve the issue and restore peace and stability in the Gulf region.
“The use of force will not bring peace. A political solution is the right way forward. The root of this conflict is the launch of military attacks by the US and Israel against Iran, which violate international law,” said Mao.
She added that all parties need to show sincerity and immediately end the war that should not have happened in the first place.
Several weeks after the outbreak of the Iran conflict, both sides continue to launch military attacks against each other. The closure of the Strait of Hormuz has triggered widespread concerns, and calls for a ceasefire and safe shipping lanes have grown stronger.
The United States (US) and Iran have also exchanged harsh rhetoric in recent days. Some sources indicate that the two sides may reach a ceasefire agreement.
The situation in the Middle East continues to deteriorate, with military conflicts still escalating, impacting the global economy and energy security, and causing deep concerns from the international community, Mao said during a regular press conference.
Mao stated that since the conflict broke out, China has taken an objective, fair, and balanced stance, and has worked to help achieve a ceasefire and end the turmoil.
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi has held 26 telephone conversations with various parties, including Iran, Israel, Russia, and Gulf countries. China’s special envoy for Middle East issues has travelled to the region in mediation efforts. Last week, China and Pakistan issued a five-point initiative, which reflects the international consensus for a ceasefire and peace.
