Beijing (ANTARA) -

China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi stated on Sunday (5/4) that his country is willing to continue cooperating with Russia, within the framework of the United Nations (UN) Security Council, to ease the situation in the Middle East.

In addition, Wang affirmed China’s readiness to partner with Russia to maintain regional peace and stability, as well as communication on major issues, and to uphold common security for the world.

Wang, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), made the statement during a telephone conversation with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.

He noted that China and Russia, as permanent members of the UN Security Council, must uphold justice and truth on principled issues, adopt an objective and balanced approach, and strive to gain greater understanding and support from the international community.

Wang added that China consistently advocates resolving international and regional hotspot issues through dialogue and negotiation. Wang said the situation in the Middle East continues to deteriorate, hostilities are still escalating, and the fundamental solution to ensuring navigation through the Strait of Hormuz lies in achieving an immediate ceasefire and ending the war.

Meanwhile, Lavrov stated that Russia is deeply concerned about the escalating tensions in the Middle East.

Regarding the ongoing conflict and the Strait of Hormuz issue, Lavrov said Russia believes military operations must be halted immediately and efforts should be redirected to the path of political and diplomatic resolution to address the root causes of the conflict, with the UN Security Council playing a constructive role in this regard.

Wang stated that Russia is ready to maintain close communication and coordination with China and continue to strive for and voice support for a ceasefire and the end of the war.
