China limo handy for handover
HONG KONG (Reuter): A Chinese state television station has found a new use for China's Red Flag open-top limousine -- mounting TV cameras for location shoots.
Chinese Central Television will drive its own version of the ageing gas-guzzler into Hong Kong to cover the territory's return to China at midnight on June 30 after 156 years of British colonial rule.
A manager at the station said nothing could match the car, the type which the late paramount leader Deng Xiaoping used to inspect troops at Tiananmen Square, for sheer capacity.
"We just couldn't find another car that was big enough to accommodate all our cameras and a crew," he told Reuters. He would not say whether this was indeed the one that Deng used. "We really don't know if Mr Deng ever rode in it," the manager added.
