Children Banned from Social Media, Kak Seto: Direct Them to Traditional Games
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Chairman of the Indonesian Child Protection Institute (LPAI) Seto Mulyadi stated that traditional games can serve as a replacement for gadgets for children. These traditional games are considered an effective alternative in supporting Government Regulation Number 17 of 2025 on the Governance of Electronic Systems in Child Protection (PP Tunas), which prohibits children under 16 years old from having social media accounts. “Playing together, traditional games, storytelling, drawing, activities that are not just about gadgets,” said the man familiarly known as Kak Seto to Kompas.com on Monday (30/3/2026). At that time, several regional heads also adopted events involving playing together with traditional games in West Java and West Nusa Tenggara. In addition to children, traditional game activities can also directly involve parents, such as storytelling and engaging in traditional games again and activities that are no less exciting than playing with gadgets. For information, the government through the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs officially implemented PP Tunas on 28 March 2026. The PP Tunas emphasises that every digital platform must ensure child protection provisions by limiting account usage by users under 16 years old. “There is no compromise on compliance. Every business entity operating in Indonesia must comply with applicable laws,” stressed Meutya Hafid at the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs office in Central Jakarta on Friday (27/3/2026).
