Child Dies from Homemade Gunshot, KPPPA Urges Evaluation of Practical Activities in Teaching and Learning
Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Ministry of Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection views the need for an evaluation of the implementation of practical activities in teaching and learning activities (KBM) to prevent violence against children. “We encourage educational institutions to evaluate the implementation of practical activities in teaching and learning activities and to provide clear boundaries and guidelines in activities that have the potential to endanger children,” said Acting Deputy for Special Child Protection at KemenPPPA Indra Gunawan when contacted in Jakarta on Tuesday. He stated this in response to the case of a junior high school student who died due to an explosion from a homemade firearm in Siak Regency, Riau. His side also regrets that the teacher did not fully guide and direct the children in developing their creativity. “This incident serves as a reminder for all parties to always guide and direct children in the process of developing their creativity,” said Indra Gunawan. Previously, an explosion occurred at a private junior high school in Siak Regency, Riau, which killed a male student with initials MA (15) on Wednesday (8/4). The incident happened when the victim was practising a tool suspected to be a rifle, which then exploded and caused the victim to suffer head injuries. Initially, the victim and his friends were given an assignment by the science subject teacher to make a science tool. The victim and his friends then made a tool resembling a rifle. The initial plan was to hand over the tool to the teacher on Wednesday (8/4), but because the teacher in question was on duty supervising extracurricular activities at another school, the handover was postponed. Before the handover, the victim took the initiative to test the tool at school. However, tragically, when the victim tested the tool, an explosion occurred that hit the head area, resulting in the victim’s death.
