Bantul District’s Transport Department (Dishub) has prepared several alternative routes to manage the flow of Eid holiday travel. The department has also mapped routes prone to accidents so that travellers can exercise greater caution whilst driving.

Bantul Dishub Head Singgih Riyadi stated that the department has prepared three alternative routes during the holiday travel period. The first alternative route is designed to avoid congestion on Wates Road.

“So if you’re travelling along Wates Road, from the Klangon three-way junction head east via Pajangan. From there, you can go from Sedayu to Pajangan and then onwards to Srandakan,” he said when contacted by detikJogja in Bantul on Thursday (12 March 2026).

The next alternative route is designed to avoid heavy traffic volume on Wonosari Road. Drivers can take an alternative route at the Sampakan four-way junction.

“For drivers travelling along Wonosari Road, they can go from the Sampakan four-way junction southwards. Then pass through Sitimulyo, Bawuran, and Segoroyoso until reaching Imogiri,” he explained.

The third alternative route is from Srandakan Bridge heading south to the South Cross Road (JJLS). According to him, by taking the JJLS, drivers can reach Sanden and then Kretek in Bantul.

To prevent travellers from becoming confused, Singgih noted that signage pointing to alternative routes would be installed. Traffic officers will also be stationed to direct drivers to the alternative routes.

“There will be directional signs for alternative routes, and staff will be present. Some officers will be mobile or patrolling, so if anyone is unsure of the direction they will be guided,” he said.

Regarding the Cinomati route, Singgih stated that large vehicles are not permitted to pass through. He has also installed warning signs on the Cinomati route.

“Cinomati is actually not permitted for buses to travel through, and there are already signs in place. However, like last year, there are still large vehicles passing through. Therefore, we will station officers there to advise that large vehicles are prohibited from using the Cinomati route,” he said.

Accident-Prone Routes in Bantul

Bantul Dishub Traffic Division Head Irawan Kurnianto added that the department has mapped routes prone to accidents in Bantul. These routes are mostly connectors between different areas and are frequently used by large vehicles.

“The accident-prone routes include the Yogyakarta-Wonosari route, particularly in Wiyoro, Kidfuns, Piyungan, Bukit Bintang Patuk, and Siyono. Subsequently at the Ketandan junction, Giwangan to Dongkelan, as these are the main entry routes from the city (Yogyakarta),” he said.

Irawan noted that the Yogyakarta-Wates route is also prone to accidents. Dishub has also identified several locations that are prone to waterlogging during heavy rain.

“For areas prone to waterlogging, these include the Bakulan-Kretek stretch, the area north of Kretek Bridge, Ketandan junction, Ngipik junction on the South Arterial Road, and the area in front of the ATK Polytechnic Yogyakarta’s residential flats,” he said.

Dishub will also increase traffic management at accident hotspots. Traffic officers will be deployed in the field to manage traffic flow.

“Dishub will also install warning signs, repair road markings, and coordinate with relevant agencies to address waterlogging and road infrastructure repairs,” he concluded.
