ChatGPT Finance Launches: Users Can Now Link Bank Accounts and Credit Cards
OpenAI has officially launched a new feature called ChatGPT Finance or Personal Finance within its ChatGPT chatbot. This feature allows users to connect their bank accounts, credit cards, and even investment portfolios directly to ChatGPT.
Initially, the feature is only available in preview for ChatGPT Pro subscribers in the United States via web and iOS. OpenAI states that support for Plus users and more countries will be rolled out gradually.
With this feature, users can ask ChatGPT to analyze their spending, monitor monthly subscriptions, create budgets, and even assist with long-term financial planning based on real user financial data.
With this connection, ChatGPT can access data such as account balances, transaction history, investments, credit card installments, and regular user expenses.
However, OpenAI emphasizes that ChatGPT cannot transfer money or view users’ complete account numbers.
OpenAI states that more than 200 million people use ChatGPT to ask about financial matters each month. Therefore, the company wants to make its chatbot more personal in helping with financial management.
“Starting today, we are launching the ability for Pro users in the US to connect their financial accounts in ChatGPT,” OpenAI wrote in its official announcement.
A number of internet users have questioned how secure account data will be if provided to an AI chatbot. These concerns arise because ChatGPT can now directly access user transaction data and financial habits.
OpenAI says that users still have full control over their data. Users can disconnect their accounts at any time and delete “financial memories” stored in ChatGPT.
