Palangka Raya, Central Kalimantan (ANTARA) - Central Kalimantan Governor Agustiar Sabran stated that strengthening oversight of energy supplies or distribution, whether in the form of fuel (BBM) or LPG, is one of the main focuses of the provincial government. “We need to strengthen monitoring, including, if necessary, by utilising technology such as GPS-based distribution monitoring, field documentation, and direct supervision up to petrol stations,” he said in Palangka Raya, Central Kalimantan, on Monday. Based on recent field observations, queues for refuelling have been seen at several petrol stations, including in Palangka Raya. “We assess that this fuel issue has the potential to become a serious problem if not anticipated immediately. Concrete and swift steps are needed from all of us,” he explained. Therefore, according to him, distribution patterns need to be regulated, such as arranging service times between subsidised and non-subsidised BBM, to prevent build-ups and long queues in the field. “Ensure subsidies are on target, and there is no gap, however small, for misuse,” he said. He conveyed this during a coordination meeting to anticipate price increases due to the impact of fuel price rises. This meeting is hoped to build togetherness, strengthen coordination, and anticipate various potential problems in the future. Furthermore, Agustiar explained that based on available data, fuel needs in Central Kalimantan are quite substantial, supported by several depots such as in Pulang Pisau, Sampit, and Pangkalan Bun. Therefore, distribution must be truly monitored, both in terms of quantity and even distribution. “We hope for adjustments in distribution, especially in areas with high activity such as plantations, mining, and agriculture. This is important so that BBM and LPG distribution can be more targeted and in accordance with real needs in the field,” he stated. Meanwhile, Acting Provincial Secretary of Central Kalimantan Linae Victoria Aden stated that they are ensuring fuel and LPG supplies remain safe and smooth through intensive coordination with PT Pertamina and all stakeholders. She added that monitoring of subsidised distribution, both BBM and 3 kg LPG, must be tightened to ensure it is on target and prevent misuse. Steps for regulation and law enforcement against hoarding and fraud also need to be carried out firmly. “Transparent public communication is very important to maintain public trust and prevent panic,” she explained.
