Central Java’s provincial government enthusiastically welcomes millions of homecomers who will enter the region during Eid 2026. This annual tradition is viewed not merely as a reunion occasion, but as a crucial momentum to drive the wheels of the economy down to village level.

Governor Ahmad Luthfi of Central Java emphasised that all supporting infrastructure from roads to the UMKM sector has been prepared to capture the economic opportunity.

“We have prepared infrastructure, hotels, and even UMKMs in strategic locations and target villages for homecomers,” said Ahmad Luthfi after dispatching tens of thousands of participants in the Central Java 2026 Free Mudik programme at the Museum Purna Bhakti Pertiwi, Taman Mini Indonesia Indah (TMII), East Jakarta, on Monday (16 March).

Central Java is one of the largest homecoming destinations. It also serves as a transit route for homecomers from Greater Jakarta and West Java heading to East Java and vice versa.

Therefore, Luthfi hoped that the movement of people returning home could increase money circulation and economic activity in the region.

Luthfi stated that preparations to welcome homecomers have been coordinated with regency and city governments down to village level. He believed the homecoming momentum must be seized as an opportunity to foster economic growth in respective regions.

“So that homecomers’ basic needs are met, including homecomers in certain locations who are welcome to spend their pocket money in Central Java, particularly at UMKMs,” he explained.

Not only that, Central Java also serves as a congestion point for homecomers. Therefore, Ahmad Luthfi urged homecomers to utilise available rest facilities in the region, ranging from service areas to hotels and lodgings.

“Please rest and sleep at accommodation available in Central Java,” he said.

It is known that during this mudik-balik season, an estimated 17 million people are expected to enter and pass through Central Java. Of this number, some have Central Java as their final destination or hometown, whilst others are merely transiting from Greater Jakarta and West Java to East Java or vice versa.

For this Eid homecoming, the Central Java provincial government along with 35 regencies and cities, regional state-owned enterprises, and other agencies have dispatched a total of 348 bus units. These comprise 325 buses from Jakarta carrying a total of 16,186 homecomers and 23 buses from Bandung carrying 1,133 homecomers.

Beyond bus fleets, Governor Ahmad Luthfi is scheduled to dispatch free train travel departures on Tuesday (17 March 2026), with a total quota of 1,288 seats.

To anticipate this surge, the Central Java Provincial Government began operating the Integrated Eid 2026 Command Post from 13 March to 30 March 2026.
