All Nutritional Service Fulfilment Units (SPPG) in Central Java are now required to absorb the supply of eggs and chicken meat from local farmers. This policy was adopted to support the sustainability of the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) programme while maintaining price stability for livestock commodities at the producer level.

The strategic commitment was agreed upon through a coordination meeting involving the Central Java Provincial Government, the National Nutrition Agency (BGN), farmer associations, and farmer cooperatives at the Central Java Governor’s Office Complex on Friday (19/6/2026).

Central Java Deputy Governor Taj Yasin Maimoen stressed that all SPPG in the region must prioritise purchasing food supplies from cooperatives and people’s livestock associations in Central Java. This step is expected to create a mutually beneficial circular economic ecosystem.

“SPPG in Central Java must buy food supplies from Central Java, whether managed by cooperatives or associations,” said Taj Yasin.

In the agreement, an MBG menu scheme was established that will use eggs and chicken meat twice each per week. To ensure business certainty for farmers, the government also set the following reference prices:

This policy is considered crucial not only to guarantee nutritional availability for beneficiaries but also as a protective instrument for farmers to prevent losses due to price fluctuations or oversupply.

BGN Director of Community Empowerment and Participation, Tengku Syahdana, stated that this agreement will serve as an official guideline for all SPPG and partner foundations implementing MBG. BGN is committed to conducting strict supervision in the field.

“BGN will supervise and take firm action against any violation of the provisions set forth in this agreement,” Tengku asserted.

Chairman of the Central Java Prosperous Poultry Farmers Cooperative (KPUS), Suwardi, projected that the potential absorption of eggs through this programme is very large. If all MBG kitchens consistently use eggs twice a week, absorption is predicted to reach 1,050 tonnes per week.

In line with this, Central Java Pinsar Chairman Susilo expressed hope that the implementation of this policy could become a long-term solution in overcoming the oversupply of chicken that has often depressed prices at the people’s farmer level.
