Semarang (ANTARA) - The Central Java Provincial Government has received a grant from Dian Nuswantoro University (Udinus) in Semarang in the form of a device that produces drinking water from the air, named Toyaku. The device was handed over directly by Udinus Rector Pulung Nurtantio Andono to Central Java Provincial Secretary Sumarno in Semarang on Tuesday. Toyaku is the result of research conducted by Udinus to obtain ready-to-drink water without relying on wells, rivers, or the regional water supply company (PDAM) network. “We appreciate the innovation from our friends at Udinus for this Toyaku. This is extraordinary because it captures water from the air. I just tried the water, and it’s fresh,” said Central Java Provincial Secretary Sumarno after sampling the Toyaku water. According to him, the taste of Toyaku water is no different from water sourced from springs, and he thanked Udinus for contributing to the people of Central Java. Moreover, he added, the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) predicts a prolonged dry season starting in June. “Hopefully, with devices like this, it can also be part of our efforts to address water shortages, especially clean water needs during the upcoming dry season,” he said. He hopes that the technology will be developed further so that more units can be produced to help areas facing clean water difficulties or regions without springs. Meanwhile, Udinus Rector Pulung Nurtantio Andono explained that Toyaku is a Smart Atmosphere Water Generator born from research by Udinus students. Its advantages include resource independence by harvesting water directly from the air, equipped with artificial intelligence features and IoT (Internet of Things). “Insha’Allah, its health safety is guaranteed because it has been checked by the Semarang City Health Office,” he said. He stated that the research created by Udinus is hoped not to stop at the campus but to be more beneficial for the community. “We believe that the Central Java Provincial Government can utilise our research results to the maximum,” he said. He is also pursuing a patent for Toyaku, as the water produced by Toyaku already has a drinkable certification from the Semarang City Health Office. Toyaku’s production capacity is 8 litres of water over a 12-hour period, and it will be placed in public rooms of the Central Java Provincial Government.
