The Central Java Provincial Government has stated its support for the Indonesian National Police’s (Polri) initiatives aimed at bolstering food security in the region.

Boyolali (ANTARA) - The Central Java Provincial Government announced that rice production in the province had reached at least 4.16 million tons of dry milled grain (GKG) by early April 2026, or 39.48 percent of the annual target.

The Head of the Central Java Food Security Agency, Widi Hartanto, stated in Boyolali Regency on Saturday that the rice production target for Central Java in 2026 was set at 10.5 million tons of GKG.

This statement was made while accompanying the Vice Governor of Central Java, Taj Yasin Maimoen, during a simultaneous corn harvest event for the second quarter of 2026 in Dukuh Nglarangan, Teras Village, Teras District, Boyolali Regency.

The event was held online concurrently with the groundbreaking ceremony for 10 Polri food security warehouses and the launch of operations for 166 Polri Nutritional Fulfillment Service Units (SPPG), led by President Prabowo Subianto from Tuban Regency, East Java.

In the agricultural sector, the corn production target for 2026 was set at 3.7 million tons, while corn production as of April 2026 reached 984,959 tons or 26.62 percent of the target.

The simultaneous harvest event took place on a local farmer’s cornfield and involved elements from the regional government, TNI-Polri (Indonesian National Armed Forces - Indonesian National Police), farmer groups, and the community.

The Vice Governor of Central Java, Taj Yasin Maimoen, said that these achievements indicate that several food production indicators in Central Java show a positive trend as of early April 2026.

This momentum is part of efforts to strengthen national food security while maintaining stable food production in the region.

“In principle, we from the Central Java Provincial Government certainly support the steps taken by Polri to support food security in Central Java,” he said.

To support the achievement of these targets, the Central Java Provincial Government has allocated various strategic programs throughout 2026, including assistance with seeds and production facilities, rehabilitation of irrigation networks, construction of piped irrigation, and modernization of agriculture through the distribution of agricultural tools and machinery.

Protection for farmers is also strengthened through a rice farming insurance program covering 10,449 hectares, tobacco insurance covering 10,000 hectares, and subsidized interest rates for hundreds of farmer financing packages.

The Chief of Polri, General Listyo Sigit Prabowo, said that the simultaneous corn harvest for the second quarter was carried out on an area of 189,760 hectares with a potential yield of around 1.23 million tons.

According to him, 100 tons of corn from the harvest will also be exported to Malaysia through the Jagoi Babang border in Bengkayang Regency, West Kalimantan.

The corn is purchased by cooperatives from farmers at a price of IDR 6,500 per kilogram and sold to Malaysia for IDR 7,000 per kilogram.

“Thus, a profit margin of IDR 500 per kilogram is obtained,” he said.

He added that Polri continues to encourage strengthening the agricultural ecosystem from upstream to downstream, including through support for access to People’s Business Credit (KUR) for corn farmers.

To date, as many as 714 farmer groups fostered by Polri in 42 police precincts across eight regional police forces have utilized these financing facilities with a total loan of IDR 30.3 billion.
