Central Java Police Uncover LPG Refilling and Subsidised Fuel Misuse Cases

The Special Criminal Investigation Directorate (Ditreskrimsus) of the Central Java Regional Police has uncovered three cases involving the misuse of subsidised petroleum and LPG in several areas of Central Java. The revelations include the illegal refilling of subsidised LPG in Sukoharju Regency, as well as the misuse of subsidised BioSolar in Kebumen and Demak Regencies.

From these three cases, police estimate that the misuse of subsidies has the potential to cause state losses amounting to Rp10.8 billion. The methods used by the perpetrators varied, ranging from transferring the contents of 3kg LPG cylinders into non-subsidised cylinders to modifying vehicles and tanks to hold large quantities of subsidised fuel.

In the course of these investigations, police seized various pieces of evidence, including 983 filled 3kg LPG cylinders, 253 empty 3kg LPG cylinders, 42 50kg LPG cylinders, five 12kg LPG cylinders, as well as vehicles that had been modified to siphon and transport subsidised fuel.

This enforcement action is part of the police’s ongoing efforts to monitor the distribution of energy subsidies to ensure they reach the intended recipients. Police are also continuing to investigate practices of misuse that have the potential to reduce the rights of the public to access subsidised fuel and LPG.
