Central Java PKK launches 'Kencan Bumil' to curb maternal and infant mortality
Blora (ANTARA) - The Central Java Family Welfare Movement Team (PKK) has launched the Kencan Bumil programme (Know and Check the Health of Pregnant Women) and the SIM (Management Information System) to curb maternal and infant mortality (AKI-AKB).
Nawal Arafah Yasin, chair of TP PKK Jateng, in Blora Regency, on Wednesday, urged all elements of society to seize the moment as a reinforcement of the joint campaign to improve maternal and child health.
The launch of the Kencan Bumil and SIM programme coincided with the commemoration of PKK’s 54th Movement Unity Day in 2026 at Desa Nglangitan, Kecamatan Tunjungan, Blora Regency.
“Let us make this PKK’s 54th Movement Unity Day momentum a turning point to significantly reduce maternal and infant mortality,” she said.
She noted that the launch of Kencan Bumil together with SIM PKK is an important step, as the organisation will be easier to determine priorities in addressing strategic issues, one of which is the reduction of AKI and AKB.
“We are launching SIM PKK as PKK’s management information system so that we can determine priorities and respond to strategic issues in Central Java Province,” she said.
Through utilisation of the information system, she added, services on strategic issues, particularly for pregnant women, are expected to be more measurable, rapid, and adaptive.
Data from the Central Java Health Department shows maternal deaths in 2023 at 438, falling to 427 in 2024, and decreasing again to 337 in 2025. Through the first quarter of 2026, AKI stood at 70 cases.
A similar trend is observed in infant mortality, with 4,612 cases in 2023, then 4,326 in 2024 and 3,650 in 2025, while through Q1 2026 there were 799 cases.
She confirmed that PKK Jateng will focus on three main steps in assisting pregnant women: outreach, knowledge enhancement, and sustained accompaniment.
“How we must monitor AKI so that the numbers do not stay high in Central Java Province. Therefore, these three aspects will be the focus of support during pregnancy. One cadre for one pregnant woman,” she said.
The accompaniment, she continued, will not be limited to pregnancy but also into the postnatal period and administrative processing, requiring collaboration among various elements guarding the health of pregnant women.
