Central Java’s Deputy Governor Taj Yasin Maemoen (Gus Yasin) announced that the free internet service is designed to make travel easier for mudik travellers by allowing them to stay connected with their families.

“When people return to their hometowns, they might run out of mobile data during their journey. This service can facilitate mudik travellers to maintain contact with their families,” Gus Yasin said in a statement on Thursday, 12 March 2026.

He made the announcement whilst reviewing the implementation of the 2026 Eid Exodus Community Service Programme at Sukoharjo Terminal in Sukoharjo Regency on Thursday, 12 March.

Gus Yasin reminded the public not to misuse the free internet facilities. He instructed provincial officials to properly monitor internet usage for mudik travellers.

“We are actively combating online gambling and gaming abuse. I ask the Civil Service Police to truly monitor the use of free internet at these public facilities,” he said.

Addressing mudik travellers, Gus Yasin affirmed that Central Java’s provincial government is committed to being a good host. He stressed that Central Java was 100 per cent ready to welcome mudik travellers.

“As instructed by the Governor, we must be good hosts for mudik travellers,” he said.

On this occasion, Gus Yasin also urged mudik travellers to pay attention to their health. Long-distance travel can cause physical exhaustion and reduced stamina, making health checks necessary.

Gus Yasin also ensured there would be no shortage of basic necessities in Central Java.

Sukoharjo Regent Etik Suryani expressed appreciation for the 2026 Eid Exodus Community Service Programme. She welcomed the availability of free internet at various public locations.

She explained that the programme began in 2025 and continues in 2026. In addition to free internet in public areas, there is also free internet in village sectors, education sectors, and internet supporting the Empowered Subdistricts programme.

“This is very beneficial for the community,” she said.

Meanwhile, dozens of residents queued to receive free health checks held at Sukoharjo Terminal. Among them were bus crew members undergoing urine and blood tests.

PO Gunung Mulia bus driver Via expressed happiness with the free health checks conducted at Sukoharjo Terminal. According to him, the health checks would help him understand his health condition.

During the activity, Via underwent blood sugar and blood pressure checks. The results showed normal blood pressure. However, blood sugar levels needed to be reduced.

Meanwhile, free internet service also greatly helped people who needed to update information. As a ticketing officer, Fadith greatly benefited from the free internet facility at Sukoharjo Terminal.

“The connection speed is quite smooth. It’s very helpful for my work as a ticketing officer,” he said.

During the visit, Gus Yasin also distributed assistance to mudik travellers, Trans Jateng passengers, and becak (pedicab) drivers at Sukoharjo Terminal. He even accepted an invitation from an elderly person to check the house where they lived near the terminal.
