Central Java Governor Ahmad Luthfi has called on homebound migrants not to bring relatives or friends back to Jakarta after Eid unless they have secured employment. Luthfi made the appeal whilst attending the launch of the 2026 free Eid migration programme at the car park of the Museum Purna Bhakti Pertiwi in Taman Mini Indonesia Indah (TMII), East Jakarta, on Monday, 16 March.

“I have already conveyed to the homebound migrants that upon returning to Jakarta, they need not bring anyone if they do not have guaranteed employment,” said Luthfi.

According to him, this step is important to avoid adding burden to large cities such as Jakarta, which already face high population density.

Luthfi stated that the Central Java Provincial Government has prepared various job training programmes for those wishing to work in their home region. These programmes include training through Job Training Centres (BLK), vocational training, and workforce development managed by both provincial and district/city governments.

“Central Java has already prepared BLKs, vocational training, and workforce development. So if people want to work, they can stay in Central Java. We do not want to burden Jakarta, particularly East Jakarta,” he emphasised.

As part of the programme, Luthfi released 325 bus convoys carrying tens of thousands of migrants from the Jakarta area back to 35 districts and cities in Central Java. The governor assured that all regional heads in Central Java are prepared to welcome returning migrants to their hometowns.
