The 60-metre breach in the Semarang–Godong road at kilometre 35, caused by the collapse of the Tuntang river embankment on 16 February 2026, is currently undergoing intensive repair work. Construction proceeds around the clock to meet operational targets before the Eid holiday migration period, the governor stated whilst inspecting repair progress at Tinanding Village, Godong District, Grobogan Regency, on Monday.

The visit was conducted to ensure acceleration of works and to identify technical obstacles in the field. “This must be completed seven days before Eid. What matters is that it becomes solid and passable for vehicles. Once finished, we will immediately shift our focus to handling the regency roads that serve as alternative routes,” Ahmad Luthfi instructed the ranks of the Central Java Public Works and Spatial Planning Agency (DPUPR).

The Head of the Central Java Public Works and Spatial Planning Agency (DPUPR), Henggar Budi Anggoro, reported that work progress has currently reached approximately 75 per cent. The agency is optimistic that the two-week completion target can be achieved. “Hopefully within these two weeks it will be completed. So, before Eid we can reopen traffic from Purwodadi to Semarang and vice versa,” he stated.

According to Henggar, the initial plan for managing the breached road section involved using an emergency armco bridge. Materials had already arrived at the site. However, following technical evaluation, structural shifts were discovered in adjacent road sections near the breach point. It was therefore decided to dismantle and permanently reconstruct the section using reinforced concrete casting.

“In total, approximately 60 metres of road surface were lost. The armco bridge is no longer being installed, and we are implementing permanent measures to ensure greater strength and durability,” he explained.

The collapse of the Tuntang river embankment at the boundary between Tinanding Village and Kebonagung Village, Kebonagung District, Demak Regency, caused water overflow that inundated surrounding areas and completely cut off the primary Semarang–Godong access route. This route is one of the vital arteries for logistics distribution and public mobility in the eastern regions of Central Java.

In his previous visit, Ahmad Luthfi requested the Ministry of Public Works, through the Pemali-Juana River Basin Authority (BBWS), to accelerate embankment closure. He also proposed expedited normalisation of the Tuntang River to prevent recurrence of such incidents, particularly ahead of the migration season and potential extreme weather.

The acceleration of road restoration is expected not only to ensure smooth Eid migration flows in 2026, but also to restore community economic activity that was disrupted by the closure of this strategic route.
