Central Java Governor Inaugurates Klaten Deputy Regent
Semarang (ANTARA) – Central Java Governor Ahmad Luthfi has sworn in and inaugurated Mahanni Yulindha Pratiwi as Deputy Regent of Klaten for the remainder of the 2025–2030 term.
“Pay special attention to efforts to alleviate poverty,” Luthfi said at the swearing-in and inauguration ceremony in Semarang on Monday.
The new deputy regent was also asked to strengthen cooperation with Klaten Regent Hamenang Wajar Ismoyo.
According to Luthfi, reducing poverty is one of the indicators of successful regional development. He said the deputy regent was therefore expected to play an active role in managing poverty-reduction programmes, coordinating with the regent and all regional agencies.
Data for 2025 put Klaten Regency’s poverty rate at 11 per cent, higher than Central Java’s 9.39 per cent. Klaten’s economic growth was 4.62 per cent, below the province’s 5.37 per cent.
These figures present a challenge for the regional leadership, which must promote economic growth that directly improves residents’ welfare.
Luthfi also emphasised the importance of unity between the regent and deputy regent in running the government. He said they should work towards the same goals, support one another and prioritise collaboration to accelerate regional development.
“They should work as one team to develop the region. I am sure the two of them will agree,” he said.
Klaten’s strategic location, bordering the Special Region of Yogyakarta, makes cohesive leadership and the effective use of development opportunities particularly important, Luthfi added.
Mahanni was appointed to replace the previous deputy regent, Benny Indra Ardhianto, her husband, who died in office on 7 February 2026.
Mahanni was elected in a vote at a plenary session of the Klaten Regency Regional Legislative Council (DPRD) on 26 August 2026, receiving all 49 councillors’ votes.
The inauguration was attended by Klaten Regent Hamenang Wajar Ismoyo, Central Java DPRD Deputy Speaker Heri Pudyatmoko, former Klaten regent Sunarna (2005–2015), former regent Sri Mulyani (2017–2025), and Klaten Acting Regional Secretary Jaka Purwanto.
