BATAM — The central government, through the Ministry of Investment and Downstreaming, continues to push investment growth in Batam. This was marked by a working visit from Deputy Minister of Investment and Downstreaming/Deputy Head of BKPM, Todotua Pasaribu, to the Batam Authority (BP Batam) on Tuesday (29/4/2025).

Todotua and his entourage were welcomed directly by Deputy Head of BP Batam, Li Claudia Chandra, at the BP Batam Marketing Centre.

In his remarks, Todotua stated that the visit aimed to strengthen consolidation and strategic communication to accelerate investment realisation in Batam. He noted that the national investment target for 2025 stands at Rp 1,900 trillion, with Rp 465 trillion already achieved in the first quarter.

"One of the strategies we are promoting is the strengthening of industrial estates, Special Economic Zones (KEK), and Free Trade Zones (FTZ)," he said.

Todotua also addressed global economic challenges, such as the trade war between the United States and China arising from reciprocal tariffs. However, he emphasised the importance of capitalising on opportunities emerging from such dynamics.

In the near term, his office will finalise the implementation of a joint task force between the Ministry of Investment and BP Batam. As a concrete measure to ease coordination, the Ministry of Investment will also re-establish a service desk at BP Batam's One-Stop Integrated Service Centre (PTSP).

"We want the process to be more tactical. Investment obstacles have typically centred on licensing, business climate, and competitiveness. The presence of the task force and service desk is expected to accelerate the resolution of these barriers," Todotua explained.

In response, Deputy Head of BP Batam, Li Claudia Chandra, expressed full support for the central government's strategic measures. "We welcome the establishment of the task force and the Ministry of Investment's service desk at BP Batam. This is a manifestation of our shared commitment to creating a more welcoming and competitive investment climate," she said.
