Bekasi, Kompas.com — Surveillance camera (CCTV) footage allegedly showing the moments of the explosion in the fire at the Bulk LPG Filling Station (SPBE) in Cimuning, Mustika Jaya sub-district, Bekasi City, has circulated widely on social media.

“We are still tracing that CCTV footage,” said Bekasi City Metro Police Chief Kombes Kusumo Wahyu Bintoro to the media on Thursday (2/4/2026).

Kusumo explained that the large explosion and the burning materials caused gas to spread widely following the wind direction. This meant the explosion’s impact was felt not only around the incident site.

“The Puslabfor team has conducted an in-depth investigation, and the cause is still under investigation,” Kusumo said.

Kusumo also highlighted the SPBE’s location, which is very close to residential areas. According to him, this will be a subject for evaluation with relevant agencies.

“This is indeed too close to residential areas. It will be communicated with the relevant departments,” he stated.

In the incident, a large-capacity gas tank was reported not to have caught fire because the safety system functioned properly.

“The 50,000-tonne one did not catch fire because the water hydrant and circuit breaker worked well. What burned was around 15,000 tonnes of transport,” Kusumo clarified.

Nevertheless, the fire still caused damage to several residents’ homes, traders’ kiosks, and vehicles around the location.

“Losses are still being assessed. But from what we see, there are houses, traders’ kiosks, and two-wheeled and four-wheeled vehicles that were affected,” he said.

According to him, the facility has been operating since 2009, when the surrounding environment was not as dense as it is now.

“This is a Pertamina partner managed by a private entity and has permits,” he said.

He added that the company has not been able to confirm the chronology of the incident as it is still awaiting the investigation results.
