CAT to be split into two
BANGKOK: The Communications Authority of Thailand (CAT) will
split into separate telecommunications and postal companies next
month as part of a privatization plan, a report in The Nation
newspaper said on Thursday.
The plan was approved on Wednesday by the State Enterprise
Policy Committee (SEPC), the report said.
CAT Telecom is to oversee existing voice and data services,
including international call handling, while Thailand Post will
remain a wholly state-owned body overseeing postal services,
according to the report.
CAT Telecom will undertake preparations for an initial public
offering and listing on the Stock Exchange of Thailand.
Deputy Prime Minister and chairman of the SEPC Somkid
Jatusripitak was quoted as saying the listing was likely to draw
foreign investor interest. -AFP
