Cases of Violence Against Women Rise in 2025
REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA — The National Commission on Violence Against Women (Komnas Perempuan) released its annual report showing a rising trend in gender-based violence in Indonesia. Throughout 2025, the number of reports of violence against women increased by 14.07 per cent compared with the previous year, reaching a total of 376,529 cases.
‘The data on gender-based violence against women in the 2025 Annual Report generally increased by 14.07 per cent, with a total of 376,529 cases,’ said Komnas Perempuan Chair Maria Ulfah Anshor in Jakarta on Friday (6 March 2026).
The data are grouped into three categories based on the stages of case handling: reporting, prosecution, and verdict. The largest share of cases comes from the verdicts of the Religious Courts (Badilag) at 321,726 cases.
Next, reporting data comes from government agencies 35,589 cases, community-based organisations 10,348 cases, and Komnas Perempuan itself 3,682 cases. At the prosecution stage, data recorded from the Attorney General’s Office 2,848 cases and from the Military Court and State Administrative Court (Badilmiltun) 2,336 cases.
Meanwhile, the number of complaints of gender-based violence against women received by Komnas Perempuan in 2025 rose by 10 per cent to a total of 4,597 cases. ‘In responding to these complaints, Komnas Perempuan handles an average of about 19 cases per day,’ said Maria Ulfah Anshor.
The data compiled in Komnas Perempuan’s 2025 Annual Report involve 97 institutions. The data in the Komnas Perempuan Annual Report include a compilation of violence cases handled by various service bodies for women victims of violence, whether government-run or community-formed. The Komnas Perempuan Annual Report also includes data from law enforcement agencies.
