Case of Child Nizam Syafei's Death in Sukabumi Escalates to Investigation Stage
The Sukabumi District Police have officially elevated the status of the case involving the death of child Nizam Syafei to the investigation stage. This step marks the presence of suspected criminal acts in the matter.
“We respect the investigators’ decision to upgrade the report from the victim’s mother, Lisnawati, from the investigation to the formal inquiry phase,” said Lisnawati’s lawyer, Krisna Murti, in a written statement on Wednesday (18/3).
The elevation of the case status is outlined in the Notification of Investigation Progress (SP2HP) received by the legal team on 17 March 2026. The case was reported by Nizam’s biological mother, Lisnawati. Through this SP2HP, Krisna is convinced that a criminal act occurred in Nizam’s death. The investigators are believed to have found sufficient preliminary evidence.
“We will closely monitor this investigation process to ensure it is professional, transparent, accountable, and adheres to applicable regulations,” he added.
Krisna urged the police investigators to work professionally. The legal team will not hesitate to take legal action if any negligence is found in the law enforcement process.
“We ask the investigators to promptly reveal clearly who is responsible and to enforce the law without discrimination. For us, the legal process is not just about elevating the case status, but about delivering justice for the victim,” he emphasised.
Previously, Krisna had demanded that this case be thoroughly investigated. The handling of the case must not stop at only prosecuting Nizam’s stepmother as the perpetrator of the violence. He suspects that Nizam’s father, initialled AS, committed negligence leading to the violence against the child. AS is suspected of allowing the violence to occur, resulting in someone’s death.
“If there is no protective and concrete action, this cannot be called ordinary violence,” said Krisna.
This suspicion arises because there had been an official report since 2024 that Nizam was a victim of violence. However, there was no concrete action from the victim’s father to prevent his child from becoming a victim of violence. This condition is considered contrary to the father’s role as a legal subject obligated to protect his child.
“If Nizam’s father already knew about the violence, there was an official report, he understood the real risks but chose to settle it and still allowed the child to remain in a dangerous condition, then that situation must be seriously examined as a possible conditional intent,” explained Krisna.
