Captain of Tugboat Musaffah 2 that Exploded in Strait of Hormuz is Resident of Luwu, South Sulawesi
The captain of tugboat Musaffah 2, which exploded and sank in the Strait of Hormuz, has been identified as Miswar, a resident of Luwu Regency, South Sulawesi. The family received news of the incident from Miswar’s colleague at the shipping company.
“The first person to inform us was Captain Ismail, a colleague at the company where my father worked,” said Yayat, the captain’s son, as reported by detikSulsel on Monday (9 March 2026).
Yayat stated that the family received news of the incident on Friday (6 March). He also said the family was able to communicate with his father on Thursday (5 March).
“The last communication was Thursday afternoon at 1 pm,” he said briefly.
Yayat further stated that the vessel captained by his father struck a naval mine. This caused the ship to catch fire and sink.
“According to what we were told, the ship that my father was commanding struck a naval mine,” he said.
Yayat did not provide further details regarding communication with the shipping company where his father worked. He said the family is still awaiting further information regarding the incident.
