REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA – Participation of the younger generation in the capital market continues to rise and is beginning to shape a new structure for domestic investors. This trend opens opportunities for market deepening but also raises challenges in terms of literacy and protection. The Financial Services Authority (OJK) records that 54.71% of capital market investors come from the age group under 30 years old. The Executive Head of the Capital Market, Derivatives Finance, and Carbon Exchange Supervisory Authority of OJK, Hasan Fawzi, stated that this shift indicates an increasingly broad investor base, particularly from the youth. “The majority of investors start through mutual fund products and services, which serve as the main entry point for beginner investors,” Hasan said during the launch of the Smart Mutual Fund programme and Mutual Fund Week 2026 at the Main Hall of the Indonesia Stock Exchange in Jakarta on Monday (27/4/2026). As of 24 April 2026, the number of capital market investors reached 26.12 million, with dominance in initial investments through mutual funds. Hasan assessed that this condition presents an opportunity to strengthen the market but still requires strengthening literacy. “Funds invested, no matter how small, are valuable assets that must be managed with high integrity and prioritising investor protection,” said Hasan. Along with the increase in the number of investors, the industry’s performance also shows growth. The net asset value (NAV) of mutual funds reached Rp710.29 trillion, up 5.18% year-to-date.
