Candidates' forged diplomas
Candidates' forged diplomas
From Koran Tempo
The Institute for Research and Development of Regional Administrations (LP3D) has reported to the Jakarta Police the use of forged diplomas by 32 would-be councillors for the City Council.
The institute has taken this initiative because in their opinion the Jakarta's Elections Supervisory Committee (Panwaslu) and Regional General Elections Commission (KPUD) will take too long to follow up this matter.
It seems that the use of forged diplomas has become a national phenomena among legislative candidates. It is time the General Elections Commission, the central government and the House of Representatives established a special committee to deal with this matter.
The main problem here is not just the low level of ethics of those using forged diplomas but serious commitment on the part of the General Elections Commission and regional commissions to follow up on reports on the use of forged diplomas.
I'm rather pessimistic that this matter will ever be thoroughly dealt with. I've heard that in Medan the deputy governor also uses a forged diploma but no action has been taken about this.
