The Institute for Research and Development of Regional
\nAdministrations (LP3D) has reported to the Jakarta Police the use
\nof forged diplomas by 32 would-be councillors for the City
\nCouncil.<\/p>\n
The institute has taken this initiative because in their
\nopinion the Jakarta's Elections Supervisory Committee (Panwaslu)
\nand Regional General Elections Commission (KPUD) will take too
\nlong to follow up this matter.<\/p>\n
It seems that the use of forged diplomas has become a national
\nphenomena among legislative candidates. It is time the General
\nElections Commission, the central government and the House of
\nRepresentatives established a special committee to deal with this
\nmatter.<\/p>\n
The main problem here is not just the low level of ethics of
\nthose using forged diplomas but serious commitment on the part of
\nthe General Elections Commission and regional commissions to
\nfollow up on reports on the use of forged diplomas.<\/p>\n
I'm rather pessimistic that this matter will ever be
\nthoroughly dealt with. I've heard that in Medan the deputy
\ngovernor also uses a forged diploma but no action has been taken
\nabout this.<\/p>\n
