Candidates for governor nominated

MEDAN, North Sumatra: The North Sumatra regional branch of the
United Development Party (PPP) nominated five gubernatorial
candidates, four with military backgrounds, after a "tough"
meeting here yesterday.

North Sumatra's PPP chief, Hasrul Azwar, said the four hour
meeting resulted in a consensus to nominate Maj. Gen. T Rizal
Nurdin, Maj. Gen. (ret.) Syamsir Siregar, Maj. Gen. Abdul Muis
Lubis, Maj. Gen. (ret.) Subardi Suar and Ridwan Batubara.

Ridwan is the only civilian on the list.

Hasrul was quoted by Antara as saying that the result of the
meeting would be brought for further consultation to PPP national
chief Ismail Hasan Metareum. (mds)
