Cambodian police chief here to forge ties
JAKARTA (JP): Cambodian Police Chief, Lt. Gen. Hok Lundy, and five senior officers visited the Jakarta Metropolitan Police headquarters on Jl. Gatot Subroto, South Jakarta yesterday to forge closer cooperation and assistance with the Indonesian police.
"We need to embark on a joint cooperation with the Indonesian police particularly on crime investigation, anti-riot methods, and seawater police system," Lundy told The Jakarta Post yesterday shortly after taking a close look at the city police latest devices.
Lundy also said that the Cambodian police is seeking assistance from the Jakarta police.
"We want to learn from the experience of the Indonesian police as our two countries have some similarities, such as the cultural traditions," said the three-star general.
Moreover, the Cambodian people are already familiar with the Indonesian police force for their unforgettable role as members of the Indonesia's UN peacekeepers in Cambodia in 1992 and 1993, said Lundy.
During the visit yesterday, Lun and his five officers, wearing white uniforms, were welcomed by Jakarta Police Chief, Maj. Gen. Hamami Nata, accompanied by senior officers and all heads of the city police precincts.
The Cambodian officers, who were here to attend the 50th anniversary of the Indonesian Police, were briefed about the Jakarta police latest devices, personnel, system and duties.
According to Hamami, the city police will report to the National Police chief for approval should there be a formal request for help from the Cambodian police force. (bsr)
