Cambodian police chief here to forge ties<\/p>\n
JAKARTA (JP): Cambodian Police Chief, Lt. Gen. Hok Lundy, and
\nfive senior officers visited the Jakarta Metropolitan Police
\nheadquarters on Jl. Gatot Subroto, South Jakarta yesterday to
\nforge closer cooperation and assistance with the Indonesian
\npolice.<\/p>\n
\"We need to embark on a joint cooperation with the Indonesian
\npolice particularly on crime investigation, anti-riot methods,
\nand seawater police system,\" Lundy told The Jakarta Post
\nyesterday shortly after taking a close look at the city police
\nlatest devices.<\/p>\n
Lundy also said that the Cambodian police is seeking
\nassistance from the Jakarta police.<\/p>\n
\"We want to learn from the experience of the Indonesian police
\nas our two countries have some similarities, such as the cultural
\ntraditions,\" said the three-star general.<\/p>\n
Moreover, the Cambodian people are already familiar with the
\nIndonesian police force for their unforgettable role as members
\nof the Indonesia's UN peacekeepers in Cambodia in 1992 and 1993,
\nsaid Lundy.<\/p>\n
During the visit yesterday, Lun and his five officers, wearing
\nwhite uniforms, were welcomed by Jakarta Police Chief, Maj. Gen.
\nHamami Nata, accompanied by senior officers and all heads of the
\ncity police precincts.<\/p>\n
The Cambodian officers, who were here to attend the 50th
\nanniversary of the Indonesian Police, were briefed about the
\nJakarta police latest devices, personnel, system and duties.<\/p>\n
According to Hamami, the city police will report to the
\nNational Police chief for approval should there be a formal
\nrequest for help from the Cambodian police force. (bsr)<\/p>",
